The first graduates
On the eve of the first graduation in "Control Systems and Automation". Head: H. Pavlov. The team included Yu. Kondratenko, V. Kutkovetskyi, V. Tymchenko, H. Kondratenko, I. Makhnova and others.
The Department of Computerized Control Systems was founded on 1 September 1998. Three years running (2006–2008) it ranked first among the graduating departments of the university. Three scientific schools, 700+ publications, an unbroken record of training engineers.
The Department of Computerized Control Systems opened on 1 September 1998. Its founder and first head was Prof. Yurii Kondratenko, Doctor of Technical Sciences.
The first teaching staff was built around Prof. V. Kutkovetskyi (Institute of Electrodynamics, NAS of Ukraine), Assoc. Prof. V. Karpenko and Assoc. Prof. M. Sobolieva (Institute of Cybernetics, NAS of Ukraine). A young postgraduate, S. Sydorenko, helped shape the concept of the specialty.
In October 1999 Hennadii Pavlov – then Associate Professor, later Doctor of Technical Sciences and Professor – was appointed head of the department. The first group of students had already begun their studies on 1 September 1999 in the specialty "Control Systems and Automation".
Expanding the laboratories, equipping them with modern computers and building a highly qualified team – all of it was done quickly and effectively. As early as 2006–2008 the department took first place among the graduating departments of the university three years running.
The early years saw a series of successful dissertation defences: the doctoral degree by H. Pavlov (2001) and PhD degrees by S. Sydorenko (2002), H. Kondratenko (2003), D. Pidopryhora (2003), B. Peker (2004), R. Stavynskyi (2004), A. Obrubov (2005), Iyad Yasin Mustafa Al-Zubi (Jordan, 2005) and S. Blintsov (2005).

New colleagues: M. Pokrovskyi, O. Cherno, O. Nikitina, I. Tymchenko, O. Korobko, T. Shcherbynin – a new generation of PhDs, all graduates of the department.
Since 2018 the head of the department is O. Cherno. Younger lecturers are laureates of state prizes: I. Vinnychenko, A. Topalov and O. Herasin.
From the very beginning the department has been home to two research teams representing two scientific schools:
Resonant converters, controlled electromechanical systems, power-conversion technology. Until 2010 – the "Convertor" team.
Fuzzy logic, neural networks, control of complex objects under uncertainty, behavioural synthesis of digital devices. Until 2010 – the "Signal" team.
Until 2010 these were the research-and-production teams "Convertor" and "Signal". They handled every key task of the department: training academic staff, carrying out research projects, preparing publications and teaching materials, and building research and teaching laboratories.
The main directions today:
The results are reflected in more than 700 research works: monographs, textbooks approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, and patents known both in Ukraine and abroad. Every lecturer in the department holds a scientific degree.
The department welcomes postgraduates and young researchers ready to carry on the work of its two scientific schools.
